Theater and Film Director | Creator-Producer
MFA Candidate in Film Directing, New York University
Martin Boross is a New York-based Hungarian theater and film director and producer working at the intersection of documentary performance, moving image, and civic engagement. His work develops hybrid, participatory formats rooted in social and political realities.
He is the founder and former artistic director of STEREO AKT, a progressive theater collective he led for eleven years, creating and producing original works presented in over 40 cities across 13 countries in Europe and the United States. He also co-founded and led STEREO Workshop, an independent cultural space in Budapest supporting interdisciplinary performance and emerging artists.
He earned his first diploma in 2013 at Budapest’s University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE).
Boross has directed over 25 original theater productions spanning stage, site-specific, operatic, documentary, and participatory/immersive formats, often using devised methodologies, video, and non-actors.
His projects frequently operate at the intersection of artistic experimentation and public engagement.
Alongside his artistic practice, he has an extensive producing background, including co-producing his U.S. guest directing works (New York, Maine, Maryland, New Mexico), organizing theater and film festivals, and working across directing and producing contexts in film.
Prior to relocating to New York, he was part of a leading generation of independent theater-makers in Hungary and has continued his practice internationally across European and U.S. contexts.
Boross began filmmaking in 2017. He has since directed several short films, a feature-length documentary, and recently premiered his debut feature film, Raw Material.
He received the Junior Prima Prize in 2016, one of Hungary’s most prestigious awards for artists under 30.
